Gangneung-Wonju National University was founded as Gangneung Normal School in 1946.
In 2007, Gangneung National University merged with Wonju National College and made a fresh start as a leading university in the central region of Korea.

 

Gangneung-Wonju National University is spread out over two campuses in Gangneung and Wonju.
Gangneung has beautiful nature and 1,000 years of cultural heritage! Gangueung is also famous for its coffee culture and a paradise of winter sports and water sports as the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games!

Wonju is a hub of the high-tech healthcare industry that is close to the capital and has a large floating population.

 

Among the national universities in Korea, Gangneung-Wonju National University is the only national university selected for five consecutive years since 2013 for the national university innovation support project by the Ministry of Education, and has confirmed its place as an outstanding university.

 

In addition, Gangneung-Wonju National University was recognized as the best national university among the small and medium sized universities without a medical school in the 2016 Asian University Ranking.

By being recognized for its efforts on cultivating talents through various industry-university cooperation programs, Gangneung-Wonju National University has been selected as the center for Industry-University Cooperation Project, known as the LINC project by the Ministry of Education for 5 consecutive years since 2012.

 

Since 2017, we have participated in the following-up project, known as the LINC+(plus) project and have taken a leading role in the growth of the region.

 

In particular, by actively reflecting the needs of businesses into the academic programs, the university supports students for successful employment and startups and promotes the mutual growth of businesses and the university.

 

As a hall of learning and the center of the local community, Gangneung-Wonju National University promotes regional strategic industries in the fields of marine biotechnology, advanced materials & components convergence engineering, business in the pan-east sea rim, software, medical devices.

 

Also, we develop and provide diverse specialized education programs, such as on-site practice-based programs and onsite expert guest lectures.

 

In particular, through the convergence education courses linked to local communities, we foster talents equipped with expertise in the specialized sectors and convergence capabilities.
