The Dept. of Computer Science was established in 1988 at the College of Natural Sciences. It later became reorganized into the College of Engineering in 1999 to participate in the BK21 project of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources. Since then, students have learned both the basics and advanced knowledge of computer science necessary for the information society. We also help them improve their abilities as advanced information technology engineers and administrators. In addition, we have fostered globally recognized experts by gaining accreditation for engineering education for all courses in 2004.

In 2007, it was reorganized again into the College of Culture Industry of Wonju University and made further academic progress. Students who would like to can take a teacher education program within this course. In addition, the Graduate School and Graduate School of Education, as well as the Graduate School of Industrial Technology, will soon be established.

After graduation, students can find take various paths, including progressing to a Masters or Doctoral course, governmental institution (government employee related to computing work), secondary school computer teacher (those who completed teacher education), financial business, computing division of an Enterprise, study abroad, research centers or start their own business. In addition, students can focus on obtaining national certifications, enhancing their competitiveness to find careers such as data processing engineers, computer system application engineers, network managers, electronic commerce managers, and webmaster or internationally recognized certifications administered by world-renowned corporations such as OCP (Oracle), MCSD (Microsoft), CCNA (Cisco), SCJP, and SCNA (Sun Microsystems).
